What this list includes
The table lists the mainline releases. Genma Onimusha is an expanded version of the first game; Tactics and Blade Warriors are spin-offs, not missing numbered chapters.
| First release | Mainline game |
|---|---|
| 2001 | Onimusha: Warlords |
| 2002 | Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny |
| 2004 | Onimusha 3: Demon Siege |
| 2006 | Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams |
| 2026 | Onimusha: Way of the Sword |
Do you need to play them before Way of the Sword?
The developers described the new story as unconnected to the previous games. Playing the classics can give you series context, but this is not a required plot-reading order. Reissues do not create new mainline entries.
Questions, answered
Where do remasters fit?
Place a remaster alongside its original game, not as a new chapter after the latest numbered entry. Choose an available edition separately from deciding story order.
